Sunlight: Announce upcoming album “Son Of The Sun”
Greek melodic heavy/power metal sensation Sunlight are more than happy to announce the upcoming album “Son Of The Sun”, which is set for release on Friday 6th December, 2024 through Total Metal Records, a division of Metal Scrap Records Inc..
Transitioning to a melodic heavy/power metal style in contrast with their previous album, “My Own Truth”, Sunlight entered the Devasoundz Studios in Athens, Greece in June 2019 to record their second album, under the guidance of renowned producer Fotis Benardo (Nightfall, Rotting Christ, On Thorns I Lay) while the mastering handled by George Nerantzis (Pain Of Salvation, Nightrage, Dark Funeral). Despite facing challenges from the pandemic and line-up changes, the album was completed in December 2023. Now it’s time for Sunlight to shine again!
Keyboardist Panos Anastopoulos comments: “Winter 2019. I was walking to a local bar here in Athens, to meet the guys and sort out the final details for starting the recordings at Devasoundz. It was already past 10 p.m. when I got there. We gathered around, talking about our hopes for the new album and sharing some ideas. But something was missing—the title. We liked the idea of using ‘sun,’ since it came up a lot in the lyrics and song titles. We also agreed that “Son of Fire” would make a strong opener. Then, a title with a playful vibe and a nice ring to it suddenly came to mind. ‘Son of the Sun’ hit the table, sparking excitement and a stronger desire for another round of beers…
Guitarist Makis Kaponis adds: “The writing process for the tracks kicked off a year after “My Own Truth” dropped. I’ll never forget that live show in Sofia, Bulgaria where we played some of the new songs from “Son Of The Sun” for the first time. Even though they weren’t polished yet, the crowd’s positive energy was amazing and fueled my excitement for the new material we were bringing to the next album”.
At this turn of events, Makis Kaponis & Panos Anastopoulos would like to wish nothing but the best to the previous members, singer Dimitris Giannakopoulos (Deified, ex-Secret Illusion), bassist Panos Mourtzinos (Black Stone Machine) & drummer Dimitris Kapoukakis (Fortress Under Siege, ex-Floating Worlds), for contributing to make “Son Of The Sun” the album that you are about to listen to soon!
The band also decided to collaborate with the famous Brazilian cover artist Gustavo Sazes, who previously worked with bands like Firewind, Soilwork, Epica among others. You can see below the cover art he made for “Son Of The Sun”. The band also worked with Shane Rice (Mythosphere, Ex Libris) to renovate their logo.
