Kosmogonia announce new studio album “Aella”

Greek folk/melodic death metal act Kosmogonia are more than proud to announce the release of “Aella”, their second studio album, which is set for release on January 14, 2025. “Aella” is a concept album based on Greek mythology and it’s the follow up to the 2020 album, “Enthrone the Gods”.

The band recorded the album – except from the drums, flutes & vocals who were recorded at Feedback Studios in Athens, Greece – made at George Nerantzis (Pain Of Salvation, Nightrage, Gus G) home studio, who also handled the mixing & the mastering of the album. The album cover art & layout made by Thoth Graphics (Enemy Of Reality, Sakis Tolis) which you can see below.

The fist audio single of the new album is the song “The Fall” which you can hear below.

The story of “Aella” takes place around 350BC. Many Greek cities are in war with each other. Thrace specifically is going through rough times due to the Scythian invasion that has taken over many cities around the Black Sea. [The Skythians were a northern civilization that originated from the grounds of modern Ukraine]

Sefthis, king of the Odryssians of Thrace pays 10.000 mercenaries. All of them were Greek warriors who were exiled from all Greek land and Sefthis gave them a second chance in redeeming themselves by helping him reclaim his land from the Skythians.

The mercenary army succeeds but they don’t stop there. They continue marching towards the northern part of the Borysthenis river, driven by a legend that deemed this land prosperous and able to offer longevity.

Thus, their journey continues but the Skythians haven’t yet said their last words, so they try to defeat the Greek army following the orders of their princess Aella.

However, Aella meets a Greek soldier named Lykonas and things get complicated between them since they’re practically enemies. Aella swings from her feelings to her reasoning.

In the end her sense of duty pushes her into killing him in front of her people as a symbol of the Skythian win against the Greeks. Not being able to withstand the burden of her decision though, she gives up her title and exiles herself into the woods of Skythia, where she gives birth to her daughter.

The album is a narration of the daughter about her parents’ story. The story of Lykonas and Aella. A daughter between two worlds.
