The Story So Far…
Absinthe Green began as a personal project in 2016, led by songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Eirini “Absinthe Green” Papadopoulou in Dortmund, Germany. Known for her commanding bass work across the international metal scene, Absinthe had already performed with acclaimed acts including German metal outfit Enemy of the Sun and Greek dark metal band RandomWalk, sharing stages with renowned artists at major shows and festivals throughout Europe.
In late 2019, after earning a Master’s Degree in Songwriting and Guitar from Berklee College of Music, Absinthe returned to Greece and transformed her solo project into a full band. Joined by drummer Harry Mason, bassist Villy Pirris, and later guitarist Panos Economakis, the lineup solidified, bringing her vision to life on stage. Since then, they’ve been captivating audiences with an emotionally charged sound that fuses pop elements, aggressive guitars, groove-driven rhythms, and a versatile vocal range.
Genres blur and definitions falter when it comes to Absinthe Green. Whether described as Alternative Metal, Hard Rock, or something else entirely, their music is a rich tapestry of influences and life experiences. A critic once captured their essence as “a melodic storm of beauty and heartbreak, both ferocious and tender”. Soul-stirring vocals shift seamlessly between power and fragility, while skillful guitar work and infectious grooves underpin melodies that cut straight to the core.
Absinthe’s songwriting is raw and unflinching, revealing deep truths about love, pain, and redemption. Her lyrics explore life’s duality—where joy and sorrow, hope and despair coexist in an ever-shifting dance.
Their debut album, “Of Love And Pain”, produced by the legendary Hiili Hiilesmaa (HIM, The 69 Eyes, Amorphis, Moonspell, Sentenced), and featuring a guest appearance by Snowy Shaw (King Diamond, Therion, Dimmu Borgir, Dream Evil, Notre Dame), ventures into the contradictions of the human experience—where destruction and creation, light and darkness merge in a symphony of emotional depth and power.
Hiilesmaa comments: “True Rock’n’Roll personality Absinthe Green has written a stylish debut album that combines classic, timeless rock sound with raw energetic expression. What a great opening for a solo career!”
“Of Love and Pain” released with worldwide physical distribution through Sleaszy Rider Records.
With its 11 tracks, “Of Love and Pain” is an unfiltered emotional journey, blending melody and grit, beauty and chaos, crafted to resonate deeply with listeners across genres and borders.
